In my art I strive for an interplay between imagination, emotion and intellect

Jonathan Bauch’s body of Sculpture spans forty years.  His last exhibition was Friends in Steel at Westbeth Gallery, which opened on May 21, 2011 he was both curator and exhibitor of this group exhibition.

Bauch currently teaches welded sculpture at the Educational Alliance Art School where he was Artist in Residence during 2004-2005 in a program funded by the Abrons Art Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Bauch graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1961.  He studied painting at NYU and the School of Visual Arts, and sculpture at The Educational Alliance. Bauch’s early work as a painter evolved into aluminum and wire mesh relief  sculpture with colored lights. Since 2000, Bauch has created approximately 70 works in welded steel, many painted with enamel. These raw, expressive free shapes draw inspiration from forms in nature as well as the physical properties of the metal itself.

Bauch was born in Brooklyn, he has exhibited mostly New York City and in the metro area including New England.
